Obligatory on mobile sorry for formatting
This week i received a job offer at a furniture company and they really harped on integrity and honesty. The whole interview was about 4 hours long and i had to fill out and sign a disclosure form part of which asked about any debt i am in. i left it blank. The issue here is i apparently have two accounts placed in collections one for school of about $1,000. I received financial aid for tuition and dropped out within required time and ever attended classes over a year ago. However a few months ago i noticed an account was opened up for the amount of one semester tuition even though i should have never owed that money. i’ve been trying to dispute it and it was removed form my credit report but i checked today and it’s back. i had no idea. When i was a minor i received therapy for which my parents were responsible. evidently they did not pay the bills. i am no longer a minor and that amount, around $1,000, is also in collections. even though it shouldn’t have even been my responsibility as i was a minor at time of treatment. i’m disputing this as well.
Anyway i didn’t realize these would show up. When i looked today they are still there. I never listed them on the disclosure form and it specifies that anything omitted is grounds for termination. So during interview i was asked questions regarding criminal history, drug use, alcohol use, where i attended school, etc. They didn’t ask about credit history so i then forgot to ask about it during interview. They constantly talked about honesty and integrity being important and people make mistakes but being forthcoming is what would make them look past those mistakes. Now i am worried because i never mentioned these and when they run a credit check it will come up and the offer will be rescinded. My start date is in a few days and i don’t know what to do.
TL;DR I didn’t know I still had two accounts in collections and have been disputing them and never mentioned it to employer during interview process before they run credit and background check. Do i tell them now or wait until/if they question it then explain as i don’t want to seem suspicious asking about it now.
