I recently had a great interview for a physical therapy internship at a hospital last Friday. This morning I decided to write a followup email (well after i should have) to let the interviewer know how excited I am about the position and to thank him for considering my application. In the followup email, I confused my timelines with another internship deadline and assumed they would send out job offers today when they are actually sending them out next Friday (they are still interviewing other candidates into next week).
I'm afraid that my interviewer now thinks that I'm overly confident and I just expected a response to my email. I'm also afraid that the interviewer will think I'm disorganized and forgetful if I send another email explaining my error.
Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated. This internship is exactly what I want and need to further my career.
Here is my followup email:
"Dear ..., Thank you for taking the time to talk with me about the ... internship position last Friday. I'm really excited about the opportunity to intern with some of the skilled staff at ... and learn as much as I can from your amazing physical therapists, as well as your physical therapist assistants. Even though I wasn't able to fully tour the ... facility, I was able to see enough of it to really justify my excitement for this position. It was such a pleasure to learn more about the internship, and I’m very excited about the opportunity to join ... and assist the physical therapists in any way possible. I appreciate the time you took to interview me. I am very interested in working for you and I look forward to hearing from you later today. If I can provide you with any additional information, please let me know. Again, Thank you for your consideration"
