I'm 6 months into a new job and I already loathe coming into work

Some data points:

  • I work as a consultant
  • Currently, I am severely underpaid in comparison to some of my peers (at my firm) with the same job title and credentials
  • I was unemployed when I took the job, I wasn't really in a position to say "no" at the time
  • I tried negotiating a salary and title bump, but, the conversation was shut down as soon as it began. I was much more senior in my old job, but, got laid off. Now I feel as though I'm starting from scratch.
  • I've been on a project for about a month, and have been having issues with my internal team. The client loves me, but, I've come across some of the following issues:
    • Racist/condescending co-workers
    • Co-workers who tattle on me for the smallest infraction
    • Long-ish commute

In addition to these data points, I don't feel as though my work is challenging me enough intellectually. I feel like every time I'm at work I've got a target on back (for lack of a better phrase). Since I've joined the team I can't sleep very well, I've gained weight, and just feel like I'm "on edge" or need to watch my back/cover my ass at work. What should I do? Any guidance is greatly appreciated.
