I applied to an entry level consulting firm about a month ago. I had a successful phone call with HR on a Monday and said they wanted to hire someone within 2/3 weeks. Last Friday they ask me for an in person interview and ask for my availability “sometime soon” and it was confirmed this Wednesday for this Friday (yesterday). I am only free all of Monday and Friday late afternoons as I work part time at a camp where I work 12 hr shifts T-R and until noon on Friday.
During the interview request email from HR it said to come 15 minutes early to fill out an employment history application and references. The two people I interview with do not show up 15 minutes early. When they come at the interview time, they do not show up with any paperwork to fill out. We have a nice casual conversation at a coffee shop about my experience and the company. One guy leaves half way through because “they are swamped with work” (only 4 people in this office I get it). The other guy cuts the interview off 20 minutes after the previous guy also citing work. No mentioning of references, said they’d make a decision in the next few weeks.
I wonder if my availability (being late in the week in the afternoon) hurt me. It feels like they found their preferred candidate earlier in the week and were only interviewing me as a courtesy? Or maybe I’m overthinking. Should I reach out to HR about the paperwork? I was also thinking instead I could send thank you emails to the two who interviewed me (I can find their LinkedIn probably) and just attach references for their convenience or is that bad? Sorry this is the farthest I’ve gotten in an interview job hunting since I graduated college and I’m nervous.
