I'm pretty green in my career path and been at my current position a little longer than a year. There's a lot of backstory but in short there's been massive layoffs, a merger, a pay cut for me and the mood has been grim.
My owner goes off the handle, screams at employees, is impulsive to send nasty unprofessional emails and can be a bit clueless. I dealt with it longer than I could (months) while job hunting, but searching and needing time off has been a struggle. I've been anxious as a result and it's physically stressing me. I've had a mix of understanding and people not getting it because they aren't the ones dealing with it.
Things escalated and I wanted to defuse. I went to my direct boss who is great and laid my cards out. They are going to give me good recommendations and agreed it's best for me to put in 2 week notice. My intention was just to say I was job hunting and not quit, if they fired me I'd get unemployment anyhow. In the interest of good recommendations and in the moment it didn't go that way.
I've scoured the internet for advice and know I probably made a bad choice. I have some savings not a substantial enough but I'll be okay for a minute. Not sure what I'm looking for, but I'm terrified. I can hunt full time now but based on other's feel like I may have wrecked myself and won't know how to explain why I'm unemployed.
I feel like all I see are horror stories of people who did what I did. Looking for some hope or advice that there's a chance I didn't just screw myself.
