So I was offered a promotion to manage a very small team. My manager knows about my experience but told me that she thinks it’d be a great opportunity for me and to think about it. It will come with a decent raise.
I’m thrilled but also terrified. For one, I’m the youngest in my office and have trouble with being authoritative (at work and outside of work). The team is a bit older than me and I’m really scared they won’t take well to the promotion if I accept.
Secondly I’ve never managed a team before and have no idea where to start. I’ve managed one person as my direct report but she was so great that she made the job so easy. Now I will have 3 members under my direct report.
I am seeking advice for anyone who has been in this position. Maybe I shouldn’t even take it?
