Quit my first job after six months for a “better” job. This job isn’t better. Can I ask for my old job back?

The new job has better exit opportunities but my commute is horrendous (4+ hours) and the hours are really long (60+/week). I complained about my first job out of college because I was supposed to be doing something quantitative/technical but instead I was placed in a department where I printed papers/made phone calls everyday.

The new job is prestigious (it is public accounting) but it’s still not my long term goal. The previous company does what I want to do (investment management) but won’t let me do the work.

I left my old job on somewhat good terms but I only stayed six months. Can I still ask for it back?? I gave my two weeks notice a month ago. My last day was 9 days ago.
