I am applying for a job that I am told will likely have three interviews total, the final being with the CEO. This is my first time being selected by a recruiter, and this is the highest ranking position I’ve ever applied for, so forgive me for my novice or naive questions. Three weeks ago, a recruiter messaged me on LinkedIn, inquiring of my interest in possible jobs. I am miserable in my current position (boss is a corrupt psycho who is herself currently under investigation), so I leapt at the chance to speak more. Recruiter invited me to a formal phone screening. I passed that screening with flying colors, and then she pushed my resume to the company’s talent acquisition manager.
I landed a phone interview with said talent acquisition manager, and he told me immediately he is impressed with me and will be pushing my resume to the regional director. This is when he told me I will have to sit for 1-2 more interviews, including with the CEO. I was delighted.
Then, radio silence from the actual company. My recruiter checked in with me, asking if I had heard from the company. I told her I hadn’t, and she said she would ask her manager to obtain feedback about me. Both her manager and the talent acquisition manager were out of town at the same time, but eventually I heard back through her manager that they liked me and wanted to push me to the next step. More silence. (In the interim, I interviewed with an unrelated company and was given an offer, but ultimately turned it down when I found out how poorly structured their plans were. I let my recruiter know what was going on - was this a mistake?)
Finally, I called the same talent acquisition manager myself last week for an update. He sounded less enthusiastic on the phone and said, “Oh, yeah... I know the job is still open and they’re still looking. I’ll email the regional manager now to prompt him.” That was on Tuesday. I didn’t hear anything from the company after that. My recruiter told me Wednesday to just sit tight and be patient. Have I ruined my chances with my anxiety? And what should I do going into this week, if anything at all?
