Just graduated with a Bachelors in Library & Information Studies. Has anyone else pursued this degree, and do you have any tips or recommendations on how to utilize it properly?

This degree is basically an entry point into a MLIS, but I obviously want to save money for my Master’s. I took quite a few IT courses, including Dynamic Web Development, and design/implementation, but I don’t think I have enough on my resume to compete for an IT position.

I would love to try and work in a library setting, but I will be competing with a shitload of people who already have their Masters.

I did my internship with my University’s library, where I worked in their Digital Collections lab (handling, scanning, and color correction of old documents). I’ve also got roughly 1.5-2 years worth of retail sales experience in clothing, shoes, and pool supplies. None of that is relevant to my degree, but I’ve been listing it on apps & my resume.

My question(s): I’m going to be starting my job search in a few months, and I was wondering if anyone has had success using their LIS or library degree to land a job? Where do you work? I’d like to use my internship experience, but don’t even begin to know where to look.

Thanks again for any recommendations or even just reading this.
