Asking for unpaid time off during job search?

This may be a stupid question, but I've never had a full time job before, so bear with me here.

I have just graduated a few weeks ago with a BA and I'm applying for graduate school for next fall. Meanwhile, I need a job, which does not necessarily have to be related to my field. Right now I'm applying for anything I'm qualified for. The issue is that I have family-related plans in the middle of February for about two weeks, and I'd like to have most of that time off. At the very least, I must be absent for a few of those days.

My question is, what is the best way to make that request? At what point of the hiring process is it appropriate? I realize that's quite a lot of time to ask for, especially for a new person. At the same time, these two weeks are quite important to me. I know a person who got a week off at her new job easily, so it's not unheard of, but I worry that it may not be so easy in my case.

Would it be easier to ask for time off if I got a part time job instead? Should I go for a job and quit in one month, just to start job search again? I do have enough savings to live comfortably for the next 4 months or so, but an employment gap would be hard to justify. Any advice would be appreciated.
