So in short Im about to approach my first real case of negotiating a job offer. Long story short I interviewed for a position and just received a call today to call the employer back to discuss the terms of an offer. In the inbetween of interviewing and now, I accepted a promotion at my current employer that entailed a pretty solid pay raise.
Basically looking for tips on how to approach a negotiating as Ive never had to do that before. I am anticipating the new offer to be lower than my current salary, so I am hoping to get at least that much if not more (i dont really dislike my current job but the work hours arent the best, early start and late to leave, and new company is going to be experiencing a lot of growth).
Also, assuming Im interested in the offer from the new employer, would it be polite to give my current employer a chance to match it? I know Id be leaving them in a bit of a bind leaving so soon after starting the new job but wasnt sure how to approach that.
