Hey everyone, a friend sent me this message. I said I would ask y'all because she doesn't have a Reddit account:
Hello all, I am a hiring manager at a small company. I look for qualified candidates and run them through the interview gammut before submitting them for approval with the owners (husband/wife).
The owners reject minority candidates. "We don't want someone with 4 kids." "We don't want ghetto employees." Etc..
These candidates have already been interviewed by me and their future bosses/teams. We recommend them for employment because we think they will do a great job. They aren't ghetto or trashy- they just happen to be black/latinx.
We push back on the owners (without calling them out for being racist) and get our way sometimes, but I'm not sure how to handle the racism. The wife is in charge of HR so I don't have an avenue to complain to.
Do I need to do anything to protect myself from legal action? What is the process for reporting the owners?
