I will try to make this as short as possible.
While working at my former company a recruiter reached out to me in an attempt to recruit me for one of her clients. The money and benefits were fantastic so after much thought and many face to face meetings with the recruiter and her client, I put in my two weeks noticed and accepted the position.
My first day of work at this new company I knew I had made a mistake. I have over a decade of experience in my field and yet I was assigned almost intern level work. I chalked it up to being new and went about my tasks. All 20 minutes of it.
The days turned into weeks. Today marks week 7 at my new company. Each day I am assigned between 7-20 minutes of work per day when I’m accustomed to hectic 50 hour weeks - which I actually love and thrive in. I spend my days doing any odd “chores” I can do around the office, even going as far as sweeping the floors in order to have something to occupy my mind. I am still like the office intern despite my experience and degree (which is required for my job title). I have yet to do anything related to my job title or description.
As you can tell, I have inadvertently taken a tremendous leap BACKWARDS in my career even though I’m making more money.
I have set up a meeting with HR and the recruiter for this Friday. I can’t afford to lose this job but by the same token I want to know answers to the obvious questions.
How do I go about letting them know my disappointment without jeopardizing my job until I can find a new one?
