Melted my hand... Colleagues don't give a fuck

I work freelance in a pretty high pressure office, where deadlines come every few hours and people are expected to work 10-12 hours a day as standard. Despite the pressure and the general craziness, it's a decent place to be. People are at the top of their game and talented, I have a lot of respect for my sometime colleagues and I'd hope to get a proper job there someday.

However. Last week I injured myself pretty badly at home - I turned on the wrong hotplate in the kitchen, leading to a plastic lid sat on top melting. In my panicked attempts to get the melted crap off the heat I inadvertently covered my thumb in molten plastic and burned it worse than I've ever known a burn. Huge amounts of pain, and a thumb that looked like an FX from the walking dead - massive blisters, swelling, skin death, blood.

Three days later I went into said office for a shift, thumb wrapped in a huge dressing, still in pain, and no one even noticed it, or if they did decided to not even ask what happened or whether I was okay. It made me feel like a convenience rather than a human being.

Are these people dicks, or am I being over-sensitive?

TL/DR suffered horrible injury, colleagues didn't even notice.
