I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but here goes. First time poster here, guys.
A few weeks ago, I had an interview with a pharmaceutical company. I was the first of only 3 interviews they had for this position and I think it went okay. They gave me a set date to hear a response and once that date passed by a few days, I emailed the HR manager assuming I didn't get the job but still wanting to get a definite answer.
He responded saying that there are only 6 weeks left to the year and he's having a meeting this week to discuss budgeting and to decide if they should push their hiring decision until the first of the year. He said he'll let me know after the meeting what they're going to do.
My friend seems to think that means I got the position and they're just putting off telling me until they know they can hire immediately. Maybe I suck at reading between the lines, but I'm not so sure. Why wouldn't he just tell me outright so I can decide now if I can wait a month and if not, he should keep looking? Why did I have to email him first?
