Anyone familiar with BI/data science/data engineering, where do I fit or what role am I looking for?
I've been working at a small company (our Analytics team has 2 employees) as essentially a jack-of-all-trades data specialist for about four years, starting as an analyst, getting promoted to lead analyst / data engineer about a year ago, and recently to manager of analytics. Prior to that, I had a year of experience as a consultant working on the ETL side with Hadoop and Hive, and a couple years as an intern in a database design role.
I do not enjoy management and am looking for a change but am having trouble figuring out what kind of position or what job titles I should be looking for. I feel like the jack-of-all-trades position I've been in hinders me since I have a decent amount of experience with most aspects of the data industry but not enough in any one area to really be considered for more senior-level positions.
I enjoy building dashboards in Tableau and have been dabbling with some Python libraries like Bokeh. I love data exploration and statistical analysis and have done some work with basic machine learning libraries like sklearn. I also enjoy planning and designing end-to-end analytics solutions, the high-level concepts of how the data should flow from source to analysis or report and how best to automate as much of that pipeline as possible.
I don't really want a data engineering/ETL focused position unless it's higher level planning such as an architect position.I like the idea of data science but most positions seem to require a master's degree (which is not in my plans) or far more experience with certain technologies than I have.
Any thoughts on what kind of roles might involve the tasks I enjoy and fit my experience level?
