What would you have done?

I recently interviewed for a full-time Product Design position at a start-up. The first call went very well and I was scheduled for an in-person interview with the product design team.

The in-person interview included a white board design exercise in front of the product design team and director. Also obviously the usual questions, answers, behavioral questions and conversation.

I was informed at the in-person interview, prior to the white board exercise that an additional take-home design exercise would also be required.

At this point I would like to ask two questions.

  1. Does this sound normal?

  2. Given the scenario described, what is the appropriate response (at the interview) if you, as the candidate have a competing offer?

Note: Neither of the exercises sounded unethical in any way. I honestly am asking out of pure curiosity.
