I don’t use reddit much, so I’m sorry if this isn’t a good place to ask. I just need some advice.
I have the opportunity to work at a deli near my apartment. My sister works there for $10 an hour, but the job post I replied to says the pay depends on experience. I have 5 years of relevant experience (3 as a waitress, 2 in retail). Does that mean I could negotiate for more? I want to work there, but I also have the opportunity to work somewhere else farther away for $12 an hour. That one is only seasonal, though. There’s no guarantee I could stay on full time after Christmas.
I want to work at the deli, but I need to make more money. Can I negotiate with them or will I just look greedy? I’ve tried looking up how to ask for higher pay, but most advice online seems aimed at people in salaried positions. I’m afraid if I try to ask for more money, I’ll end up not getting the job. I’ve only had one job interview before and just took what they offered because I was young and didn’t really care. Now I actually have bills and things to save up for, so I do care lol.
If you think it’s a good idea to negotiate, what exactly should I say?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
