I received an amazing offer— incredible compensation with a pretty good company. However, I don’t want to live in the part of the country it’s located in or the region in general. Apathetic about the job, it’s for network engineering and I’m more into software/security.
I met the people I would be working with when they flew me across the country to visit, after receiving the offer. Everyone was wonderful and kind and some even reached out after, offering advice/assistance in finding a grad school for my significant other (they’re studying a niche area, and the VP knew some people who worked in that field).
I feel almost guilty turning it down, but it’s just not right for me. What do I say, how do I not burn a bridge with these great people/their company? I really enjoyed meeting everyone but the job itself is just not what I need right now.
Thanks everyone for any advice, this has been stressing me out for a while (new grad) and I don’t know how to navigate these waters!
Edit: I’m going to do this over the phone, not over email— I figure I’ve interacted with my recruiter enough that I at least owe them that courtesy.
