Do I follow up again? It has been a 3 month process, I've had 3 interviews and been invited to a conference and been told I'm "top 2".
Hi, thanks so much in advance for any and all advice.
I am deep into the application process for a project management position. I only have about a year of project management experience, and am almost 2 years removed from university. Quick timeline, because I think that'll be easiest to digest:
Mid July: I send in my resume, cover letter, and completed application via an online portal.
Early August: I am contacted for a phone interview with HR, and I have the phone interview later that week.
Late August: I hear back from an executive assistant with the company, asking to schedule an in-person interview. I am told it is with a specific person, and it ends up being with a panel of 4 people.
Early September: I hear back from the EA again, asking to schedule a third phone interview only with the head of the project (this person was also the leader of the panel I interviewed with).
Mid September: I have the phone interview. During the phone interview, the person tells me I am Top 3 for the position. I ask if they have any concerns, they tell me I'm great but I am admittedly "early career" and there might be a steep learning curve. They tell me they hope to fill the position the following week.
The following week: I follow up late in the week, they tell me they have had trouble contacting references for candidates, but they would like to invite me to a panel at a conference. I accept, and they send me a $400 receipt for my ticket (they paid). They tell me I am Top 2.
Late September: I go to the conference, schmooze as best I can, make sure the person sees me there.
Day after the conference: I follow up via email giving my thoughts and impressions of the panel.
Week after the conference: My reference tells me she's been playing phone tag with this person. I follow up via email at the end of the week with some additional research I've done and questions I have about the project.
2 Weeks after the conference (last week): My reference sends in a letter of recommendation. The person finally responds to them and says they're still playing catch-up from the conference, and thanks them for the thoughtful reference.
I still haven't heard anything. Am I fucked? Is this person just insanely busy? They did imply during the interview they regularly work 70 hour weeks, and they did host the conference. Should I just call the EA?
