Hi guys,
I am Vietnamese and currently working for a MNC in my country ; however, I feel struggle in adapting working culture in here. I am not sure if this is general picture of Vietnam or Asian working culture. There are few things below made me pissed off when go to work:
- While I come to office and start to work on time, my colleagues always starting chit-chat about news (mostly about celebrity drama), movies, etc and then begin to work around next 1 hour.
- During the working time, they are gossiping about bosses (foreigners) and other employees' privacy (relationships, family-issue) and judging their clothes or lifestyles
- Instead of sharing or helping newcomers , they think that is their "fishing rod" and do not want share with others so that they can keep their position, there is no such constructive mentality in working environment.
- Rather finding better way to finish task next time, my colleagues when complete a task, they start to watch a movie online or sleeping or even go shopping during working hours.
- It is hard to feedback directly since the they have ego, especially senior employees.
And many things to be continued....
By contrast, when I work with Western colleagues, I find it more relax and effective as all about business (no gossip, respect privacy and individualism). I don't need to worry about inferior things and can focus 100% to finish work effectively. At this moment, I feel sad to be a stranger in my own country right now. Maybe I should look for opportunity in Western countries despite the difficulty?
