Resigned my part-time out of anger... how to handle references?

Hi guys.

I was a teacher all my life until a few months ago when I entered corporate America with a role in communications. Because it was my first job in a new field, I kept a part-time teaching job online and I've been working the 2 jobs simultaneously for the past 7 months.

The company has a policy that if either students or teachers cancel in less than 24h, the class is still paid. So, in the students' case, they lose the class they purchased and, in the teachers' case, they receive a deduction. I've taught nearly 600 classes with the school and never had any issues, and I'm one of their best-rated teachers.

I started feeling really ill on Tuesday evening but had a class on Wednesday morning, which I knew I couldn't cancel. I showed up and as soon as my student looked at me, he urged me to reschedule, but I told him that I couldn't and we had a class anyway. That same day I went to the doctor, which got me on sick leave for my mail job, prescribed meds and a COVID test, all that jazz. I spent the whole day at the hospital, got home exhausted, and went straight to bed. Thursday morning I contacted the online school to let them know I had been diagnosed with COVID and they told me that they'd handle it with the students I was supposed to teach that day and wished me to get well soon.

Then Friday, I receive the following message: "Having discussed the case of canceled lessons yesterday, we are forced to give you 2 deductions because of canceling lessons in less than 24h. Being diagnosed with covid does not mean you can not conduct your booked lessons. You had to have some symptoms before being officially diagnosed with covid and you were able to conduct previous lessons. :((" -- yes, sad faces included.

I was livid and answered: "Hi, I would like to put in my resignation. Please let me know who to contact. Receiving deductions for being diagnosed with covid is inhumane." I also encouraged them to reach out to the student I had taught in "previous lessons" because he would be the first to attest to my health condition. I wasn't rude or impolite but rather assertive. I also let them know that I had canceled the upcoming lessons because I am still ill (I was worried they'd think it was out of spite!)

Do I regret having quit in such a hot-headed manner? Yes. I planned to quit in January regardless, but I was hoping not to burn a bridge. Being sick, feverish, and overall uncomfortable ended up with a bad decision on my part. How to navigate from here?
