I’m a 17 year old high schooler who has been wanting a job for the past year and a half. I have everything I need to get one and I feel comfortable getting one, but my parents refuse to let me get one. I have talked with people who have jobs, my counselors, and my college and career teachers about it saying go for it. They say “it’s going to affect our taxes” which I think is total BS. I have looked everywhere to find where this is and everything source says that I am responsible for my taxes and no one else. I only need their permission so I can use a car to get to and from and it frustrates me so much that they say stuff like “oh buy it with your own money” but the moment I say can I apply for a job it riles them up and are suddenly against any form of me making money. I just don’t know how to make them understand.
