Hi guys, I'm really lucky to be considering two great job offers. The issue is they're both too good I'm having trouble deciding. For context, one is abroad in the Netherlands (Company A), and another is US-based but also has a presence in the Netherlands and said I can work from there as well starting around the summer time (Company B). They both have the same job title.
Company A - only based in the Netherlands
- Love the product/mission WAY more than Company B
- Got along extremely well with the hiring manager, we're more similar personality-wise
- Higher pay in the Netherlands
- I'll be supporting the entire product/platform so get to be exposed to multiple facets of the business, but as a result that may prevent me from deeply understanding one area and developing a relationship with one product area. But I also like wearing multiple hats
- 25 days PTO
- Stock options awarded after 1 year
- Relocation bonus on top of logistical support moving abroad and setting up my life in the NL
- Would essentially be turning my life around, might be risky because of COVID/Omicron? I've wanted to move abroad for a while though. But, there's also an opportunity cost to not taking Company B....would I ever get a job like Company B again?
- One-time home office budget to set up WFH station, and a small monthly allowance for home utilities while WFH
- Unsure if WFH is allowed "post COVID" - they haven't gotten back to me on that. But they do have an office presence
- 1-year contract
Company B - work from US first, allow me to move to Netherlands in the summer
- Don't like the product area as much, but it's fine/okay enough to me. Just pales in comparison to Company A, I'm not as excited about the actual product
- I'll be supporting several product areas for a little bit at the start, but then will eventually focus on just one
- 100k+ salary in the US with bonus and RSUs
- Totally remote, I'll never be required to go into the office. Feels like this is a rare opportunity to have both a remote, abroad job. But will I ever find such a perfect job for me abroad like Company A?
- But a con of being remote is that it might prevent me from meeting colleagues and new people, especially moving to a new country, this might be difficult and I could get lonely, feel disconnected etc
- They'll let me work from Amsterdam, but will lower my salary as a result, so it's going to be 6-10k less than Company A (still waiting on numbers). I asked if this is negotiable and unfortunately looks like the folks who determine this are all OOO due to the holiday, but the recruiter said it's usually pretty set in stone
- Time zones are spread across Europe and the US, so might need to take meetings at weird times for me, like after work hours/night time
- BUT, if I choose to come back to the US, they will readjust my salary as appropriate!
- The people were kind and friendly - I liked all of them. But I did not have the same personal connection as I did with the hiring manager at Company A
- No relocation assistance/support if I do move to the Netherlands with this job, but they would allow me to legally work there since they are set up tax wise there
I feel like I should go with Company B since the salary is higher in the US, I can work from the US first and then go abroad, and always come home after. But I feel more excited about the actual product from Company A and felt like it is literally the perfect job abroad for me, especially since I've been interested in moving abroad for a while. But then Company B's US salary is absolutely nuts and is higher than what I've ever made, and it kinda seems like the best of both worlds almost even though I don't like the product area as much. Help!!! What would you do and why?
