Are companies actually hiring and not just talking the talk?

I've probably sent out 1,000+ applications in the past year or so leading to a few interviews. Some get to the final round to be disqualified. Others never respond or respond 9 months later. It takes a toll on your mental health when you feel useless sometimes or no one wants to hire you. The ones that do are severely underpaid.
