Accidentally misrepresented employment on resume

I’ve been working for the same employer for 2 years now. 4 months in I got a promotion to a higher title, and have been there ever since. On my resume and cover letter, I wrote that I was in this higher title position for the whole 2 years instead of the 20 months I’ve actually been in it. I was in the first lower title for such a short amount of time that I don’t even remember it enough to put it on my resume.

I have an interview coming up, and I may be jumping the gun, but I’m worried about a background check showing that I lied about my employment history. It’s a large company, and if the background checkers call HR, I assume they will find out. If they call my boss, who is my #1 reference, I know she’ll cover for me.

Is this something to be super worried about? It’s a great opportunity and the whole theme of the potential new job is being error-free and I made a big one. Is there any way around this without admitting to the interviewer what happened?

Thanks
