Would you move to a different state if you’re offered a job with your “dream” org/company even if the pay isn’t the best?

I had an interview today for a very entry-level position with a govt. organization I have previous intern-like ties with. After many attempts and never being able to get through the USAJobs algorithm, I was finally referred for the position and the rest is history! I think I did well during the interview and did my best to provide real examples along with my answers. But! usually when I think I did “well” it’s when I most get hit with rejections, but that’s a different topic for another day.

Anywho, I was told that there’s one more interview to go through and I’ll find out if I’m moving forward next week. Of course nothing is set in stone, but I have already begun thinking of the “what ifs” in the case I somehow get hired for the job. The position isn’t one I see myself sticking with forever, but it’s a way to get my foot in the door for this org which I have had a positive experience with previously.

The kicker here is that it’s in a different state… and the pay isn’t the best (38K). It’s a step down from my previous job for sure. But it has benefits like any other FT job and I’ll get to work with good people I’ve met before. I’ll probably have to live in an AirBnB while I find a place to get permanently situated in.

I don’t know. I feel like this could really be my “big break” in the long run…

What would you do? Would you move to a different state/location for a lesser paying job knowing its with your dream org/company? Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Just trying to think ahead.
