I'm not sure what flair to give this. Sorry if it doesn't quite fit the bill.
College student here. After a talk with my employer, I got the approval to delay the start of my work until mid-December with the promise that I would be able to work longer and more consistent hours (mid-December is when the school semester ends, and next semester has already been planned to accommodate the discussed work schedule). However, part of my graduation requirement is to study abroad, and there is an opportunity to get the requirement done quickly in January. However, in that case, I will have to ask to take a week and a half off from work. Would it be too soon to ask for that long of a leave? Would that leave a bad impression?

Is it bad to ask for a week-long leave soon after getting a job?
