This Interview Question: Confident & Smart Or Arrogant Asshole?

A while back, a highly-upvoted comment on "what to ask in interviews" came along the lines of:

"For this role, what sets apart an adequate candidate from an outstanding one?"

I had final interview rounds today - we ran out of time. The hiring manager offered her email address for any further questions. Alongside some less out-there questions, I have the above one typed out in a draft, but unsure if I should send.

a) thoughts on the question overall?

b) do you think the question loses its power by email vs face-to-face (in this case, Zoom)?
