Jump ship or get current employer to match offer?

Currently working for Company A. Got headhunted by an agency to do the same role with Company B for about a 20% increase in salary. Current prospects of less than 10% raise with Company A next year, more like 3-5% I'm told if previous year or two was to happen again, so jumping ship to Company B will be a nice salary bump.

However, I'm quite happy with Company A and if not for the pay rise, I really wasn't looking to move. Has anyone ever used a competitor's offer to their advantage in getting better pay with the company they're already working for? Is this something I should even try or just jump ship? If I were to tell Company A about the competitor's offer, what's the best way to go about it?

I would like to tell Company A about the offer and if they can't match it, then I would hand my notice in and accept Company B's offer but my ideal outcome is for Company A to match or better Company B's offer for me to stay.

I am in England so benefits/pension/etc. are very similar between the two companies and so isn't much of a factor for the decision. Thanks!
