I'm sort of "stuck" as a Data Scientist for the time being at a job where my co-worker/manager has sensed I'm unhappy with, he knows he can count on me for stuff, even after work hours or if I have to cover for him (because we're friends from college and this is my second and his first job), I will and have gone above and beyond for him. But he knows I don't particularly enjoy it, or rather, I force myself to.
So he called me out on it. And it got me thinking about the times I get sad at my job and make a Reddit post and there's sometimes that one guy who makes it a point to mention "my dad/I used to work 8 hours get verbally abused and [exploited paid less, stepped over yadda yadda yadda] and just go home and chill for their kids" so you should be able to handle a comfy desk job.
So is it really SOO competitive out there in the STEM CS fields that you really have to bring skill, intuition, knowledge AND have to be passionate about it down to the bone to really get by?
