Is asking about a monthly pay raise meeting during probation period rude or inappropriate?

I was told when I started my job that I will have a monthly pay raise meeting during the three month probation period. The employer was not asking me for that meeting even after 3 months. So, I asked her about it and my coworkers were surprised that I had guts to ask. The employer seemed taken back and made a joke out of it. Was she being sarcastic? Also, is it inappropriate to mention about it before the employer?
