Good evening reddit. My story goes as follows. I moved to a state in the Midwest in the middle of the pandemic after that company announced a site shut down due to Covid related difficulties. Having been there less than a year and not liking the place, I scrambled to find work. The offers that came my way were less than what I was making so kept refusing until the offer in the Midwest came along almost matching my salary in a lateral position. So to the Midwest I moved. That place turned out to be much worse than the place that closed down. After a year, I was suddenly let go. They tried to get rid of me 4 months prior but I'd documented everything after the first 2 weeks. It didn't work. So letting me go without cause was their only way to show me the door. I've been on the search for 2 months now.
The interview process has yielded mixed results. 2 final interview stages. 1 in person interview. A few phone screenings. I opted out of the first final stage because the the recruiting agency was very incommunicative during the process. The second final stage didn't approve my offer at the corporate level because of my job hopping resume. This would've been a good offer, putting me on my previous career track. My industry is small in this state unlike my home state (CA). I don't want to move because I met someone while here and made friends. I honestly didn't expect to form community and so I've committed to staying put.
If it’s possible, what can I do to overcome or work with my job hopping history? I'm being selective about where I apply because I won't repeat this mistake (toxic employer). If it isn't likely, what can I do to pivot careers? I'm looking into IT/Software Development. I was a scientist in the personal care industry in my previous life. All advice is welcome. In addition to feeling uncertain and anxious going into month 3 of unemployment, I'm feeling lost. Thanks in advance everyone. Kindness and compassion from people are what have kept me going through this situation.
