Guess who finally not only has a job but multiple offers after 100 interviews?!

Well friends it finally happened. I have a job after 100 plus interviews spanning the course of 3 ½ years. And that’s not all. After working my new job for about two weeks, I've received yet another offer and I may have another one on the horizon. I’m 27M, live at home and just started college remotely. I apologize in advance for the dysfunctional formatting. Here are the details

Current job…. Right now I work at a rapidly growing tech company as a project coordinator. While I certainly don’t hate the position I don’t necessarily care for it but it has its benefits namely.. Pros: - 100 percent remote - Unlimited time off (within reason) - Growth potential - Learn new programs such as Asana and expand my Salesforce skills - Free beer and snacks (if I ever do come to the office) - Healthcare

Cons: - Mediocre pay ($43k excluding bonus which would bring it up to $46k)

  • Complicated nature of doing business. I process new business orders and it's arguably the most convoluted and contrived system I've ever used. In addition, most of our clients are in foreign countries so there is a language barrier. We use 4 separate CRM/SaaS programs. Therefore it's extremely tedious, complex and

  • No guarantee of advancement. This is obvious as no one is promised promotions but my manager did mention to me that as the company grows and consequently brings on more “high level” people with advanced degrees (MBAs & Masters) it could be difficult to rise through the ranks since I don’t have a degree and i'm the only one on his team without one. So his recommendation was to either learn fast and get promoted or perhaps finish college.

The offer…. The offer I received today is with an engineering consulting firm for a business operations role. They’re still drafting the official letter but here are the details thus far. I need to decide by tomorrow. Pros: - Decent salary (around $60k excluding bonus) - Smaller company. Much more intimate atmosphere. - Versatile - Learn new software skills - Pleasant and youthful coworkers. Feels like a tight knit family. - Solid benefits

Cons: - Long commute and I live in an area that snows frequently (35 mins each way) - Taking over from someone with much more experience and education. I’m a little concerned about meeting expectations.

The prospect…. The 3rd option (while not official but have a good feeling about) is with a large international bank as an executive assistant serving a regional director. After completing three interview rounds he wants to have lunch with me and a few of his colleagues this Friday. Personally, I'm apprehensive about becoming an EA again but it's my ambition to enter finance, specifically capital markers for which this would be an expressway towards. Pros: - Its a position i’m already familiar with - Decent salary ($50k to $55k) - Strong connection with the director. Very pleasant man who seems to be interested in my long term career growth. - In a sector where I want to grow long term. - Hybrid work arrangement - Networking opportunities. Working under a director who’s vested in growth can open numerous doors.

Cons: - I’ve been an EA collectively for about 5 years. While not a bad job, it's tiring being essentially a highly paid servant. - Related to the 1st point. After five years, I'm ready for a transition. - Administrative duties are not my strength - Again, no guarantees of advancement and such a career switch is still years away.

So there you have it. After over 100 interviews and a few minimum wage PT jobs to maintain some semblance of income I've finally landed a permanent, full time position with more opportunities presenting themselves. Currently I’m conflicted. As stated earlier, I don’t love my current job but it does offer a good work/life balance. In addition, I feel terrible about resigning so soon. However, I could really use more money since I’m far behind on savings, retirement and life experiences. I have no intention to make a long term career out of any of these positions. I just need something decent that I can tolerate while I complete my degree. What do you all think? Thank you all who’ve been following this development and a big fuck you to those who doubted, lampooned and maligned. I’ll probably make more than you now.
