I can’t for the life of me make a decision on what job to take.
I graduated with a Graphic Design degree a couple of years ago and got a job and was laid off. I’ve now have been trying to find a new Graphic Design job for over a year now with no luck.
So I started to look for non-Graphic Design jobs. I got an offer for a remote job, it’s pretty easy…just entering customer orders and doing invoicing. There is 17 paid holidays, including a week off for christmas and 4th of July. They pay 100% for health insurance. And I can set my hours and come and go as I please. (Feels like freedom almost, no one watches me or cares it seems)
Right before I got that job offer, I got a job interview at my #1 Graphic Design company I wanted to work for…(it’s also a remote job). I had 2 interviews in the past and didn’t get the job. Well the third time was a charm and I got a job offer after I started the non-design job! They just spent about 3 weeks training me (I’m replacing a lady who is retiring next month).
At first I was going to accept the Graphic Design job no matter what because I wanted to work there sooo bad. But now I really like my hours and my freedom at this new job. The Graphic Design job doesn’t have flexible hours (I’d have to be at my desk till at least 5pm) and I can’t just take a 2 hour lunch or leave early without talking to anyone. I’m also scared that what if I suck at graphic design since it’s been so long since I did it and what if I’m super stressed out. But part of me doesn’t want to give up what I went to school for.
The non-Graphic Design job pays 7k less, but they claim I get a 10% bonus at the end of the year. And my health insurance at the Graphic Design job would be $240 a month and it has 5 or 6 less paid holidays. They both have 2 weeks vacation. At the end of the day, my take home pay is almost the same. So I can’t even decide off of pay. But I do want to buy a house ASAP, if the Graphic Design job showed I make 7k more on paper, would that even help with my loan amount?
Anyway….I also hate screwing this new job over by quitting right away and wasting their time, but at the same time this decision will have a major impact on my career future. I’d practically be throwing my chances of doing Graphic Design ever again.
How would you decide? Flip a coin? Seriously tho, I don’t know what to do and would appreciate any advice.
Thank you!!!
