I applied for a TSO position about 4 months ago and just got a call today saying they had an opening and inviting me to do the airport assessment.
At the time i was working a shitty job, but now I'm working as security at a very big hotel/casino. They pay is $18/H, but until i go full time there's no guarantee of hours or shifts etc. though they are very short so everyone is not only getting pretty much 40 hours per week, but many people also working crazy amounts of overtime. Plus if i can move into any other position there i would be making more money like an armed position at $21/h and i already have the requirements for it, just need to wait for the position to go up, so best case i could be doing that within the next several months,("best case").
On the other side of things, pretty much everyone keeps telling me that if i ever get an opportunity to work a government job i should absolutely take it right away. I don't remember what the application said since i submitted it about 4 months ago, but i think id be taking a small pay cut like a dollar or two an hour, which would really suck right now because financially things are kind of rough.
Any advice you could give me? I'm feeling inclined to take the job purely on the fact that its a "government" job, but is that alone worth it? Is there a lot of opportunity for raises and promotions, doors to new opportunities and etc.?
or should i stay where I'm making decent money, but no guaranteed hours or shifts, with decent possibility for promotions, though no raises other then the annual cost of living increase, though i do have the possibility of being around a lot of cops and celebrities and rich people and who knows if an opportunity could arise from here.
