Just been offered an "Exploding" job offer this morning....unsure if I've already screwed myself over
So I was getting ready for work this morning, when the manager I'd interviewed with not even 24 hours ago called to let me know I've got the job. Yay I thought, until I realised she was going to put me on the spot and ask if I accepted, she asked if now was a bad time to discuss and I was honest saying I really needed to get going for my shift so if we could discuss at another time.
Keep in mind I have interviewed with this manager a few years ago for a lower assistant position which I was offered in the same team for less pay and she did the exact same thing pressuring me to accept within less than 24 hours. She asked me to let her know by the end of the same day she called so back then I declined because I felt like it was a really bad time to start a new job anyway.
She seems to have this idea that she needs to let other reserve candidates know, but I can't help but think..aren't they a reserve candidate for a reason?
She's now expecting to call me again this morning and will likely pressure me to accept or decline the job offer not even a full 24 hours after being told I've got the job.
Whilst at work I managed to shoot off an email to HR asking if this is how my job offer is supposed to be given to me, given HR haven't contacted me at all. I haven't even had a chance to look at a contract, see what salary I'm being offered in the range that was advertised or the amount of annual leave days I would get etc. (I would appreciate reccomendations to other info I should check over by the way)
I suppose I shouldn't even have to ask this, but this is a giant red flag right?
As I mentioned this manager has done the same thing before, has had people I know and I'm friends with speak badly of her from their own experience of being managed by her.
During the interview when I asked for a run through of a typical day she gave a complete run on answer that didn't really go anywhere towards answering my actual question.
When I asked about training and potential for certifications/progression I was essentially told the most I can look forward to is a potential training in ITIL cerficication (Absolutely no CISCO and I suspect no COMPTIA either) and POSSIBLY (not promised) perhaps being able to work one occasional day sometimes with the 2nd line/tier 2 team to get some experience.
I've just finished an MSc in Computing & Information Systems. I'm waiting to hear back for my project results and degree classification and I'm starting to wonder if I'm underselling myself?
The role itself is an IT 1st line/tier 1 job within a UK university that's paying up to £31.5k/$43k if including "London weighting".
Whilst studying I've already worked in various other IT teams at this university such as the library and the computing labs IT teams and also worked in the accommodation team but never the main "Service Desk" where most calls/support requests go to.
I thought the pay wasn't half bad and could really use the money, especially before Christmas but I really can't help but feel this would be a bad decision that is only going to lead to a dead end and bad management from the start?
Would appreciate some advice?
