Can I start looking for Internships?

Hi everyone.

So my friend told me that internships will start going up soon and I was curious about whether I can start looking for them now or not. Allow me to explain:

I’m starting a master degree in mass communications online with a specialization in PR. I also plan to get a certificate that the school offers in Social Media. I start in January. Is it appropriate to start looking for internships? I’m going to be a student starting in January so I’ll be a student next summer. One of the things I’d like to do is have an internship to finally get my foot in the door and begin a career within the fields of PR and Social Media. Any advice? Do I wait it out till at least after I start?
