Something I've noticed increasingly began to happen recently is that employers keep advertising jobs with salary as "competitive."
As an applicant while looking around for promotion or other opportunities I'd just skip right by those and focus on ads with defined salaries. Mainly because I did not want to spend time on applying for a role that sounded perfect but might not be at the level of income I required or an adequate remuneration for time and effort. I was also very pressed for time as I was still in work in a very competitive business area which I expect most desirable candidates are.
I can't quite work out why employers would do this? Is it a tactic to get genuinely interested parties to call up and ask? Is it to prevent the competition from finding out your salary structure? Is it to try and negotiate a salary? I'd really appreciate any insight from employers or HR on that tactic.
