New job paperwork

So I’m in CA and I’m filling up my paperwork and I have a question. Many of you know that you can waive your meal period if your work day is not more than six hours. I doubt I’d be working less than six hours but just incase, is it better waive your lunch or not?

If I do put waive, will they just give me an option the day off if I want my lunch or not… or it will automatically be waived already and I won’t have an option? Sorry if that doesn’t make sense
