I am currently still employed but i have doubts if this is time for me to move on.
I have on this job for almost 15 years, on top of that, it is currently the only job i ever had. I never actually thought of moving due to the fact that i was / am uncertain if i am still marketable outside. For most people i guess it is unusual. The company is a multinational company with many different locations all around the world.
I started my job in Asia, with multiple opportunities to had been temporarily placed in other locations in Asia within the same company. The position and day to day were the same whenever i got moved. For about 6 years ago i was moved again to the States. Along the way the company decided to keep me here permanently and applied permanent residency.
So here is the kicker:
-
our US branch happened to be the last place to implement SAP. I had prior experience with it and was deemed an asset to some. But with Covid in 2020, i have a hunch that upper management made the wrong call. They decided to let go many people across the board at least 1 - 2 in every department and close down our manufacturing in the US. Now the people who are left are pretty much bunch of older age people waiting for retirement and dont really give a F about the changes we are going through with SAP. They are also losing the younger age people from quitting because of the added work by shifting tasks around and restructuring. I have a hunch that they are planning to downsize our footprint in the US due to rising operational costs. I dont see much replacements for the people who left on their own.

I was given an additional role with MM (material master if you are not familiar with the term) and PDM (Product data management) key user. I was an end user for PDM but new on MM role. I am fine with the roles. The issues for me is the lack of training and support on the MM role and generally left me in the dark to make decisions that will affect the whole production and procurement processes to the whole region.

Generally my company globally is pretty much known internally to have given a lower raise compared to a similar one. This is true (as much as i heard) from people who had left. So for me with the additional roles, i have yet to see any increase. Although i enjoyed and have no complaints of what i am doing day to day until SAP.
I am looking for advice in the following area:
-
I got this job from a friend after searching for more than 1 year 15 years ago. I really lost my confidence then but unsure how marketable am i after staying for too long. My day to day work before SAP in the US is a mechanical design engineer and is actually still is but now focusing on SAP issues only until we are a bit more smooth sailing.
-
In my mind all these SAP issues “should” be temporary but with now ever changing workflow i doubt the end of the tunnel is any where near. Anyone had similar issues with SAP where the “Business” made the wrong call to implement? Did you stay?

If i were to start looking elsewhere in the US any tips that i should know? I have never look for a job elsewhere before let alone in the US. Is resume posting through website still works? (It didnt work for me before though 15 years ago). Should i start making a linkedin account?
