Just need to vent.
1.5 months ago I apply for a job at a consulting company (was referred by a friend who currently works there) and never heard back, which is fine. Last Friday, I get a message on LinkedIn from a recruiter who works for the search firm the consulting company is using to hire for the position. She said she wants to talk to me about the position and answer any questions I may have. We were scheduled to meet at 1 p.m. today but she gets on the call at that time and says she has a conflict, can we push it to 4:30 same day. Fine. We meet later and after a 45-minute interview about the position she tells me that they are about to make an offer to a different candidate for the position and they have a back-up candidate, too. Oh, and they're making the offer this week. Of course she says I’d be a perfect fit for a couple of other positions their firm is recruiting for (none of which are aligned with my skills/previous experience). Why not tell me at the beginning of the call the position is about to be filled? Why drag me along until the end? Why reach out at all? Ugh.
