Scared of ruining my chances of finding a new job by leaving my current one!

Hey there!

I feel guilty for writing this post, as many people are left without a job, but I'm at my wits end. I have a job working in my desired field, however, it's not my desired company. I say this because I'm not exactly learning the facets in which I had hoped I'd learned in my first job out of college. I studied HR and I'm used as a recruiter for a healthcare company. To clarify, I have an HR title, but the company has used me only as a recruiter - something that I cannot stand to work in anymore.

I'm getting thoroughly taken advantage of. This has low pay (I'm JUST making 30k/yr) with no benefits and I'm doing three jobs in one. I'm often ALONE (as in I'm the only person in the whole office) answering all of outbound calls (50+ a day), dealing with people coming in the office (without their mask, I might add), and I seem to be everyone's assistant. I barely have any time to do my own job, and because of this, the case managers are always complaining about me (indirectly) in our meetings. FFS I don't take a lunch break due to the fact that I literally cannot.

The other day I was verbally assaulted by an individual and I was honestly anxious for the rest of the day due to the fact that she got physically close to me. It's just not an environment in which I'm happy in, I am not learning anything HR related, or being fairly paid for the amount of work that I'm doing.

I've been at this job for 5 months. I've constantly been searching for better positions, but I feel as though they're only hiring recruiters (I hate this position). I've been searching for a job since my 3rd month of working at this job because it's just too much. I'm depressed and often dread starting a new day of work.

I still live with my parents, so I am very fortunate in the fact that I am not in a bind with money atm. Would it be a bad idea to give my two weeks and then search for a new job without another lined up? I have been applying for about three months but I haven't found another position as of yet.

I'm asking this because I'm also concerned for my resume gap in the case that it takes me a few months to find a job. I wouldn't want to be seen as unreliable to the companies I apply to.

Thanks!
