Timeline:
-
Hiring manager calls and we have a brief screening interview over the phone, and then schedules me an interview with a few directors of the department I’m interviewing for
-
Interview goes well, and unless I misheard I was told to expect a decision within the next two weeks.
-
1 week later the hiring manager calls and schedules a second interview later that week (on a Thursday)
-
Second interview is with the same people, and much more brief. Mostly a follow-up back and forth Q&A based off the last interview. Most questions were about how comfortable I am with certain job duties, not so much of me “proving” my abilities + a few on boarding questions (when I’d be able to start, relocate, comfortable working OT, etc). It went pretty well, and I’m told to expect a decision as soon as the current week (aka Friday), up to a week(ish) from then.
-
For reasons above, the next contact I’m expecting is a job offer or rejection. I get an email Monday morning from one of the directors from the interview asking for a singular job reference. I give them my former supervisors info, and my ex-supervisor texts me no more than two hours later saying they did the referral and it went great.
I’m honestly making this post for peace of mind. Just wondering based on those with hiring experience what it looks like. The late and quick reference check is what surprised me the most, unless it’s something they forgot to ask for earlier. If it helps this is with a State Government Agency.
