Just like the title says, I am constantly giving too low a salary in my interviews. I think it's a combination of undervaluing myself and really just not knowing what I should be making. I'm looking for my first full time position out of grad school, so I don't really have a point of reference. In my most recent interview I feel like I really screwed myself. A company contacted me about an application I sent in. They wanted to phone screen me for a different position than the one I applied to because they thought I'd be a good fit for it. When I agreed they were calling within the hour, not giving me any time to research the new role. I passed the phone screen, but I now know I gave a salary about 10k less than that position normally pays and probably closer to 20k below what I'd need to live in the area. This would be a great job for a starting career in that field, but as it now stands if I stick to that number I won't be able to afford to take it.
