Can I request that an initial full-time position to be moved to temporary part-time position at an interview?
I have an interview next week with this cool company that seems great. They have a lot of good reviews and it seems like a fun place to work at. It's a one-round interview basically so it's not as if I have 3-4 rounds of interviews for a highly specialized role.
The last time I worked 40hrs a week was in a call center job basically (where I took upwards 60-70 calls a day) and I know that that wasn't good for me at all. The last thing I want is to burn myself out yet again while I'm doing a lot of personal work and stuff. There is some phone work, but it's not as much (probably about 30% of the job compared to 100% of the job).
Is there a way I can propose to the employer that I'd like to just start out as part-time so I can get my toes wet and still have my afternoons to do my personal stuff that I'm exploring / fixing / etc (i.e. continuing with therapy ) without immediately being disqualified or being seen as being too demanding right out of the gate whereas someone else may not request that kind of change?
My main fear of this is that I don't want to appear too demanding/needy but I also don't want to have to quit and put on hold all my personal progress that I'm making with my therapist and other doctors I'm finally now being able to see.
I was thinking of finding some kind of terminology that would say something like "I'm very interested in this opportunity, but I have a concern about it being full-time as I have very importance personal work that I need to keep going. I'd love to propose a 3-6 month part-time to full-time direct hire after the 3-6 contract period if it is determined I'm a good fit and am doing well."
How is that? I'm sure I can word it better. Basically, I want to let them know I'm interested, but I have personal work that I need to keep doing during the week (therapy, then physical therapy starting, other tests, etc) and it would be simplest to just be part-time while I get all these other kind of answers.
