Resignation before background check?

Like the title says, I’ve recently accepted a job offer and am waiting on my background check to process. At the same time, I’m eager to put my notice in and take some time off before my new role starts. I’m not all that concerned about something coming up and hurting my opportunity at this new company. (They’re stoked to bring me onboard, one of my old coworker who works there recommended me to begin with)

Should I wait until I get the green light from the checks or should I just go in Monday and give my resignation letter regardless?
