Feeling guilty for wanting to quit “new” minimum wage job

I started working at this job back in February of 2020. Then COVID-19 shut everything down a few weeks later. My job was closed until May of this year and I was collecting unemployment benefits.

When my job reopened, my boss asked if I’d like to return. I took the offer because my classes were online and I had nothing to do over the summer.

Now, with fall semester coming, I want to leave this job. It is my last year in college but my first year at my new college as a transfer student. I’d rather focus on finishing my degree since I have enough money saved up to not work.

I just feel bad because a lot of people left in the period of being closed. This left my job being severely understaffed. (I am often the only person working on weekdays). My boss shows no interest in wanting to hire new people at the moment.

I also feel guilty because I am essentially still “new”. I was prepared to work there for about two years when I started. Yet, the pandemic took that time away.

I know that this is a decision I will have to make for myself. I’d just like advice on getting over the feelings of guilt.
