What do you do when you have an employment gap genuinely because you were waiting for better opportunities
Over the last year since graduating in 2020 I've racked up on 1 year employment gap while looking for work. I'll admit I wasn't applying for tons of stuff, I got one interview for a technical job but the place was unable to create a position for me in the end due to management issues, failed a test on another and also applied for a PhD, which I found out 3 months later I didn't get it (but apparently interviewed well) but was offered another, then spent a good 3 weeks debating on whether to take that (my main issue with it ended up being having to move to another nonenglish speaking country so I turned it down). I'm going to apply for other PhDs in a few months since I was told more would be coming up but this whole process has left me with a one year gap (which in fairness hasn't been helped by covid which has blocked me from doing work experience in the mean time).
The problem is I'm at a point where I really just want to get any job now just to make up for the gap. I didn't want to take other jobs before because I didn't want them to interfere with doing interviews for other positions and still don't want that issue, but obviously I can't just tell an employers I'm hoping for something better in a few months. Not too sure what to do at this point and also quite worried about the gap since I doubt employers will tolerate these excuses in the future and certainly don't want to hear I'm looking out for better jobs opportunities in the future, which is somewhat worrying. Any advice on how to deal with this.
