I think my employer is looking for someone else to fill a vacant position that I really wanted, or am I being paranoid?
A quick summary;
I’m an legal trainee in a successfull law firm in Istanbul. The firm has 2 main branches, legislation and corporate. Recently, a lawyer from the corporate side anounced that he would be leaving the firm.
After his anouncement, I’ve seen my workload increase (especially in corporate matters) so I began to think that maybe they were thinking of hiring me once I get my attorney’s certificate.
Today, the most senior lawyer wanted to talk to me. He basically said that I would be working with him and another senior lawyer in an M&A case.
So naturally, I got really excited.
However, I’ve noticed that 5 days ago they’ve posted a job ad on LinkedIn for the position I want and they’re looking for an experienced lawyer for that position. Suddenly I feel like they’re just pittying me because I’ve done a lot of leg work since I’m the only legal trainee they’ve hired this year.
Am I being paranoid? I mean I know it’s normal for an employer to look at the options for a soon to be empty position. But if they’re looking for an experienced lawyer, there is no way I could compete with the other applicants for the position. Yet, The increased workload and my recent involvement with high profile corporate cases makes me feel like they’re preparing me for the position?
Any suggestions and thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
